Java Developer required to develop procurement solutions

Thank you for your interest; this position is now closed. Science Warehouse is seeking to recruit an experienced Java Developer with a minimum of two years' experience to join our team in Leeds. As a Java Developer, you will be expected to develop world-class applications and have a keen interest in the latest techniques and technologies.

We work in an Agile way which means we expect our staff to be self-sufficient and to take responsibility for their work. Our atmosphere is informal and relaxed (table tennis is particularly popular), and our distinctive offices are within walking distance of the station. You will have fantastic opportunities to work on a wide range of projects and develop new skills.

You'll also have space to investigate new technologies and the chance to make a real impact on the direction of our products. You will work as part of our team on our existing platform for our diverse range of blue chip clients with a commitment to creating products of the highest quality.

The following key skills and experience are essential for this position:

  • You'll help bring innovation into the business through working on new applications and will enhance existing features
  • You'll thrive on independence, creativity and initiative and bring this together as part of our Agile scrum team
  • You'll write and maintain consistent, well written, efficient and well commented code because you know it'll make your colleagues tasks easier
  • You will have at least 2 years commercial experience developing applications in J2EE
  • You will bring with you experienced of using MVC design patterns (ideally Struts) and knowledge of SQL (preferably with Oracle)
  • You're confident in your communication skills in working with other parts of the business to understand requirements and explain your intended approach

Whilst not essential, experience of any of the following would be desirable:

  • Proficient in using jQuery for Ajax and UI enhancements
  • Experience in using Apache Tomcat and source control systems such as git
  • Experience of Linux and Agile software development practices (particularly Scrum)

Salary is up to £28,000 with benefits including include pension and private medical insurance.
